City Mill is a grade I listed building that sits over the River Itchen. It has been the site of a mill for over 1000 years and the current building was rebuilt in 1744.
SFK consulting was asked to advise on the need for repairs to the building and to establish is structural resilience under flood conditions.
A finite element analysis was carried out to model the flow of water through the building and the loads generated by a typical flood.
Targeted improvements were made to the structure to increase flood resilience, which included both structural strengthening and flood protection
measures.
