Set adjacent to the River Kennet, with extensive glazing and generous floor to floor heights the two-storey building offers 1000m2 of inspirational teaching and exhibition space. SFK produced a hybrid structural design with a reinforced concrete lower storey with first floor flat slab and an upper storey with twin pitched steel portal frames. This provides flexible column free spaces with a clean industrial feel. With piled foundations, surface water from the building discharges to the adjacent river with the ground slab set at a level to avoid future flooding.
