Cliveden Long Garden Path
Location: Cliveden
Client: National Trust
Architect: The Garden Co
Value:
The Cliveden Long Garden Path forms a central feature of the historic Long Garden, originally designed by Norah Lindsay in the 1930s.
As part of a wider restoration, the path was redesigned to enhance accessibility and complement renewed planting, while respecting the historic character and layout of this important National Trust landscape.

The existing artificial grass path had deteriorated and was unsuitable for modern visitor use. It provided poor accessibility, particularly for wheelchair users, and did not align with the quality or heritage value of the surrounding garden. The wider scheme also required improved durability, better integration with planting, and protection of new landscaping from wildlife damage and improved drainage.

The completed path provides a high-quality, accessible route through the Long Garden, enhancing visitor experience while respecting its historic context.
The use of natural stone improves durability and visual cohesion with the landscape, while improved accessibility supports a wider range of users. The scheme successfully balances heritage conservation, functionality and long-term sustainability.
