Structural Appraisal
Our structural engineers are experts in appraising historic structures.

The need for this may be driven by a known single defect, a complex change of use, a need for a load rating when there are doubts about the performance of a structure or a need to alter an historic structure.

Our approach is based upon gaining a detailed understanding of the structure which begins with desk or archive based research using historic records and reports.

Visual inspections are essential to appreciate context and detailed investigations may follow to allow the structure to be viewed or even sampled.

An appraisal is completed by producing a report with a clear summary of any concerns and details of future actions. Such a report is often required by Conservation Officers to assist them with the assessment of a listed building consent application.
