A Grade II listed residential property with origins dating back to the late 17th century, comprising a mix of historic stone construction and later additions.

The building suffered a significant fire in 2012, primarily affecting the oldest East Range, resulting in the loss of the roof and widespread structural and water damage.

The fire caused extensive destruction to the roof, timber floors, and sections of loadbearing walls, particularly within the historic core of the building. The structure was highly complex, reflecting multiple phases of construction, with a combination of timber framing, rubble stone walls, and later steel insertions. In addition to fire damage, significant water saturation and pre-existing movement within the front elevation introduced further uncertainty regarding structural stability and repair requirements.

SFK Consulting carried out detailed structural inspections and developed a comprehensive reinstatement strategy.

This included full replacement of the destroyed roof structures using a combination of traditional oak framing and softwood rafters, repair and selective replacement of floor structures, and careful rebuilding of damaged stone walls. Where historic elements could be retained, they were repaired and incorporated into the scheme, while modern materials were introduced where necessary to improve performance. Investigations were also undertaken into existing structural movement to inform long-term repair solutions.

The project enabled the successful restoration of a significant historic property following major fire damage.

The reinstated structure combines traditional craftsmanship with modern engineering, ensuring both authenticity and durability. The works preserved key historic elements while addressing structural deficiencies, securing the long-term stability and continued use of the building.
