Bletchley Park
Location: Bletchley, Milton Keynes
Client: Bletchley Park Trust
Architect: Giles Quarme Architects
Value:
Bletchley Park is internationally recognised as the principal centre for Allied codebreaking during the Second World War.
The historic estate comprises a Victorian mansion and a series of 1940s blocks originally used by British intelligence units. In recent decades the site has evolved into a major heritage and education destination. This project focused on transforming Block E into a modern learning centre and constructing a new lecture theatre to support large-scale educational and conference events.

Working within a nationally significant heritage environment required a sensitive balance between preservation and modernisation. Block E’s 1940s architectural character needed to be retained while adapting the building to meet contemporary educational standards, accessibility requirements and modern building services. Integrating a large new lecture theatre within the historic setting also required careful design to complement the existing architecture. Additionally, the wider site infrastructure required upgrades to drainage and landscaping using sustainable methods and improved coach parking provision.

Completed in 2023, the project delivered a high-quality learning and event environment that enhances Bletchley Park’s role as a leading education and heritage destination.
The upgraded facilities enable the site to host large audiences, lectures and international events while maintaining its historic character. The new Fellowship Auditorium quickly became a flagship venue, hosting key sessions during the inaugural international AI Safety Summit 2023, reinforcing Bletchley Park’s continued relevance as a place of innovation and global collaboration.
