Richard gained an MSc in Advanced Structures from the University of Southampton, and a post graduate diploma in Conservation from the Architectural Association.
He was part of the team, along with Richard Fewtrell and Mark Ketteringham, that undertook the structural repairs at Windsor Castle following the devastating fire in 1992. Upon completion, the three colleagues were presented with a gold medal by the late Queen Elizabeth II following which they founded SFK Consulting in 2002.
Richard was appointed by UNESCO to report on the damage to 150 of the 600 historic monuments in Cairo caused by the earthquake that occurred in 1992. He was subsequently appointed by the Supreme Council of Antiquities in Egypt to advise upon repairs to the Great Pyramid on the Giza Plateau and 11 palaces and mosques in Cairo. He has also recently completed the stabilisation of the ceiling of the Tomb Chamber in Djoser’s Pyramid at Saqqara with Cintec International.
Richard has lectured at Singleton Open Air Museum, New College Oxford, Bath University, SPAB and in Washington USA and Hong Kong on the Care and Conservation of Historic Buildings.
In 2001, HMS Victory, was transferred from the ownership of the MOD to HMS Victory Preservation Trust with a £50 million dowry. Richard has been the Structural Engineer on the HMS Victory Technical Committee for the last 12 years.
